When I was about 12 years old, I was sitting in my living room and found the movie "Roadhouse" on television. The movie, if you have never seen it, features the late Patrick Swayze as a rough and tumble guy who comes into bars and turns then into a profit turning machine, no matter how derelict they are when he initially arrives. Not only was Swayze tasked with a nearly impossible goal, in the movie, but he always had a way of making doing his job look super awesome.
Every since seeing that flick, I have always been enamored with helping businesses turn their losses into profits. Every company, every business, and every manager has warrant in the market, it just may take someone from outside of the internal system to pinpoint where the miss is, and make the necessary changes.
In 2006, I left home in Fort Worth, Texas and made my way to Mobile, Alabama for college. For 4 years, I lived, breathed and embraced the Southern way of life, but I have always added my own big city favor to the cultural mix. After building successful grassroots and guerrilla type campaigns through my thesis classes at Spring Hill College, I decided to try my luck at in house marketing.
Working with a family oriented business for the next two years, I learned what it meant to feel valued as an employee, be given the freedom to make mistakes, and given the assurance that taking a risk could be more valuable than playing it safe; especially when it came to marketing efforts. In 2013, the small, but recognizable, family company was purchased by the largest vacation player in the world, offering a new portfolio of experience, projects and support than ever before.
These experiences, as well as hand on operations of running a local fitness studio, have forced me to see marketing and advertising as a route towards success, not a necessary evil. Some view marketing as a last resort effort to turn around a business - I view it as the first step in creating a successful empire.
